What gas does the HOTTAP Go use?

The HOTTAP Go runs on propane / LPG - never natural gas. You can fuel it two ways:

  • A small disposable gas canister — the quickest, most portable option, and what most people use. Your HOTTAP Go ships with the right hose for the canister sold in your region.
  • A larger refillable bottle (9 kg / 20 lb "BBQ" bottle) — better value and far longer run time for basecamps and longer trips. You just swap to a different hose and regulator (we sell one for your region), using the tool-free GasKnect coupling.

The gas that's easiest to buy differs by region, so find your region below.

🇦🇺🇳🇿 Australia & New Zealand

  • Default (small): a 1 lb (0.45 kg) disposable propane canister — the small screw-on propane cylinder. This is what the HOTTAP Go is set up to run on out of the box.
  • Where to find it: propane camping cylinders from ColemanCompanion or Gasmate, sold at camping stores (BCF, Anaconda), Bunnings and larger outdoor retailers.
  • Good to know: 1 lb propane canisters are less common on Australian/NZ shelves than the cheap butane "lunchbox" cartridges — so if you camp regularly, most local users go straight to the refillable bottle below.
  • Bigger bottle (longer trips): a refillable 4 kg or 9 kg LPG "BBQ" bottle (swap or refill at Swap'n'Go, BOC, Supagas or a service station), connected with the AU/NZ LCC27 Gas Hose & Regulator we sell. LCC27 is the current Australian/NZ cylinder fitting.

🇺🇸🇨🇦 United States & Canada

  • Default (small): the 1 lb (16.4 oz / ~0.45 kg) "green" disposable propane cylinder — sold in every camping and hardware store.
  • Popular brands: ColemanBernzomaticWorthingtonCoghlan'sFlame King also makes a refillable 1 lb bottle if you'd rather not throw cylinders away.
  • Bigger bottle (longer trips): a refillable 20 lb propane "BBQ" tank — exchange one at Blue Rhino or AmeriGas, or get your own refilled — connected with the US Gas Hose & Regulator we sell (CSA-certified for the US and Canada).

🇬🇧 United Kingdom

  • Default (small): a screw-on camping gas cartridge — the resealable type with a threaded ("Lindal") valve that screws onto the regulator hose. In roughly 230 g or 450 g sizes.
  • Popular brands: Coleman C250 / C500Go SystemCadac (EN417) and Highlander screw-fit cartridges — stocked at Go Outdoors, Halfords and Decathlon.
  • ⚠️ Important — get the screw-on type: the popular clip-on Campingaz "CV" cartridges (CV270 / CV470) and the cheap pierceable ("puncture") cartridges do not fit the HOTTAP Go's regulator. Look for "screw-on", "self-sealing" or "EN417 threaded".

🇪🇺 Europe

Across Europe the HOTTAP Go uses the same screw-on camping gas cartridge as the UK — the resealable, threaded ("Lindal" valve) type, in about 230 g or 450 g.

⚠️ It must be the screw-on type. The clip-on Campingaz "CV" cartridges and older pierceable cartridges will not screw onto the HOTTAP Go's regulator. When in doubt, look for "screw-on / EN417 / 7/16-inch thread" on the packaging.

Here's what to look for in the most common markets:

  • 🇩🇪 Germany: screw-on cartridges are everywhere — Coleman C500Primus, Decathlon's own Forclaz / Quechua 450 g cartridge, or Enders / EVOCAMP (sold at OBI and online).
  • 🇫🇷 France: France is Campingaz country, so the cartridges you'll see first are usually the clip-on CV or pierceable types — these won't fit. Buy a screw-on one instead: Coleman C500 or a Primus screw cartridge, both stocked at Decathlon.
  • 🇮🇹 Italy: screw-on is the standard for camping/hiking stoves — ColemanPrimusMSR. Campingaz CV is also on shelves, so double-check you're picking the screw-on version.
  • 🇪🇸 Spain: screw-on is the default — Coleman C500Primus Power Gas (at Decathlon). Avoid the Campingaz CV clip-on.
  • 🇳🇱 Netherlands: screw-on cartridges dominate — ColemanPrimusMSROptimus.
  • Elsewhere in Europe: the rule is the same everywhere — choose a screw-on / threaded EN417 cartridge (Coleman, Primus, MSR, Kovea, Optimus and similar), not a clip-on or pierceable one.

Cold weather tip: for cold conditions, pick a cartridge marked as a butane/propane (or isobutane) mix rather than pure butane, which struggles in the cold.

Bigger bottle in Europe: the HOTTAP Go can run off a larger refillable LPG bottle here too, but bottle fittings vary from country to country in Europe — there's no single European standard. Contact us and let us know your country so we can point you to the correct hose and regulator.
