Depending on a few variables (like if you're a scruncher or a folder, and how much toilet paper you use in general) you may find that when attempting to dispose of the TP into the solids cassette, the paper doesn't fall through the opening.
Through our testing, we find that it is possible for most people to make adjustments in how they use their TP to have it fall through the opening in most cases. However, even if not, the GottaGo comes with a 'poker' stick to help with this situation. Even if a few 'loads' of TP are bunched up in your bowl, the pooker can hygienically push them into the solids cassette without your hands getting close to the bowl.
Why didn't we just make a bigger opening?
The opening size that we have on the GottaGo is already the largest size we could get, considering the limit on overall unit size that we wanted to keep. The limiting factor is the space we have either side of the opening, as we needed to leave enough room for the latch to fully open. So, if we wanted a bigger hole, we would have need to have a bigger (wider) cassette and therefore also a wider toilet.
Comparison to other 'Chemical' Toilets:
The opening area of the GottaGo is significantly larger than all other popular chemical toilets. However, when testing these models, we did find that it is mostly possible to rely ONLY on the flushing mechanism to drain toilet paper into the solids cassette. However, this always took significant amounts of flushing, using up precious volume in the solids cassette (and adding weight). We found that when we wanted to be frugal with our flushing, a poking device (a stick) was often useful.
Comparison to other 'Composting' Toilet:
Many other composting toilets have larger solids openings than the GottaGo. However, none of the openings are airtight and sealed, meaning that they typically have to rely on fans, agitation and in general 'proper use' to try to inhibit any smells. The GottaGo is latch seal is completely airtight, guaranteeing no smells, even if no litter material is used (even though we recommend it).
